Concerto in Azzurro by David Matthews

Released on the Chandos label, the BBC Philharmonic showcase two symphonic poems, coupled with A Concerto in Azzurro for cello and orchestra performed by Guy Johnston.

The concerto is composed as a single large-scale movement, lasting just under 25 minutes.  It derives from the first movement of Bruckner's Ninth Symphony and a holiday spent on the island, and a vision of blueness found there.
