Earlier, after a dancing, magically colourful account of Barber's "School for Scandal" overture, Sinaisky's unforced musicianship had made him a near-perfect partner for soloist Guy Johnston in Schumann's Cello Concerto.

No detail was rushed, no tangled corner (and Schumann has plenty) fudged; Johnston made every note sing, and Sinaisky matched him all the way. The BBC Phil played con amore - a wonderfully unselfish performance from one of the most technically brilliant orchestras in the UK today.
